  • a toll-free non-crisis line open to Nova Scotians aged 18 and up who are struggling in some area of their life. Trained peer supporters with lived experience of mental health struggles, substance use, or other life challenges are available to listen and offer support for people who call in with non-urgent issues to discuss.

The Pause Mental Health Walk-In Clinic, located on Gottingen Street, has a toll free number you can call to set up an appointment with one of their therapists: 1-800-598-5270 any time. 

The North End Clinic has received funding to assist African Nova Scotians during the Covid-19 pandemic who are in need of Mental Health Clinicians.  If any of you are interested, please contact Tara Downey at TDowney@nechc.com.

Minimum Housing Standards

The M-200 By-Law sets the minimum standard to which residential buildings, including houses, apartment buildings and rooming houses in the municipality must be maintained. It covers: fire prevention; structural soundness; drainage; foundations; windows and doors; egress and exiting; decks; elevators; stairs; fireplaces, fuel burning appliances and chimneys; heating; plumbing; electrical; ventilation; and health concerns. If a building is suspected to be non-compliant with the M-200 By-Law, it should be reported to 311.

In 2019, Nova Scotia introduced Domestic Violence leave for an employee who is experiencing domestic violence or whose child (under 18) is experiencing domestic violence.
